對二甲氨基偶氮苯(-dimethylaminoazobenzene,即甲基黄methylyellow)係大量使用作pH指示劑及染色劑,故一有效的製法實爲必需.按Griess的製法[1]爲將硝酸偶氮苯與二甲苯胺偶合;其方法與普通製造偶氮染料法相同.Berju[2]則用另一方法,將對甲氨基偶氮苯用碘代甲烷行甲基化以製取之.

p-Dimethylaminoazobenzene was praparad by modifying Miihlau's ethod of coupling dimethylamiline with benzenediazonium salt in acidic solution and precipitating the product by means of alkalization. Detailed procedura was worked out. As a result of avoiding decomposition, a higher yield, namaly 80%, was attailied. The product was sufficiently pure for ordinary purposea.
