A NEW CALCULATION OF ATOMIC REFRACTIONS——Ⅰ.ATOMIC REFRACTIONS OF THE ELEMENTS OF SHORT PERIODS

“原子折射度”是研究物质分子结构的重要数据,目前获得广泛应用的是Eisenlohr系统[1]和Vogel系统[2].这两套系统的数据均较精确、可靠,但它们的共同缺点是仅包括不到十种非金属元素的原子折射度数据.

In this paper the author proposes the following equation for the calculation of atomic refractions
Z/R=aX+b
where Z represents the atomic number; R, the atomic refraction; X, the electronegativity; and a, b arc two constants for a given period, their values being given in Table 1.The results calculated by the above equation are recorded in Table 2.
