Synthesis and Interfacial Properties of a New Surfactant of risiloxanes

A new family of trisiloxanes of the general formula Me3SiOSiMeROSiMe3 [R=(CH2)3N- (CH2CH(OH)CH2(OCH2CH2)xOCH3)2, x=1, 2] have been prepared and characterized. The compounds were synthesized by the ring-opening reaction of (3-aminopropyl) trisiloxane and oligoethylene glycol monomethyl diglycidyl ether which were prepared from oligoethylene glycol monomethyl ether and epichlorohydrin in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst. The structures of the compounds were characterized by 1H NMR. The interfacial properties of this new family of trisiloxanes were studied. Members of this family reduced the surface tension of water to approximately 21~22 mN•m-1 at concentration levels of 10-4 mol• L-1.
