Hydrophilic Channel Framework Constructed by Second-sphere Coordination

Protonated N,N,N′,N′-tetrabenzyl-ethylenediamine can form inclusion crystals (1~3) with [Fe(CN)6]3-, [SnCl6]2- and [TeCl6]2- by second-sphere coordination, respectively. The crystal 1, through the combination of synthons of NH+…NC-, NH+…p(NC) and CH…p(NC), constructing a hydrophilic pillared layer channel with channel size of 1.03 nm×1.12 nm, which can accommodate two alcohol molecules and two water molecules; the crystal 2 is endowed with hydrophilic channels between layers through C—H…Cl- synthons, with channel size of 0.94 nm×0.73 nm, in which three water molecules and two Cl- anions are packed; the structure of crystal 3 is similar to that of crystal 2, a hydrophilic channel between layer structures is constructed by C—H…Cl- synthons, with channel size of 0.94 nm×0.72 nm, and two water molecules are filled within the channel between layers.
