Preparation and Characterization of Poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) Fiber with Anti-ultraviolet Aging

The modified poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers, which exhibit anti-ultraviolet properties, were prepared by chemical copolymerization and physical blend methods. Mechanical property, intrinsic viscosity, SEM and ATR-FTIR techniques were used to characterize the fiber change before and after UV accelerated aging. Based on ATR-FTIR of PBO fibers before and after UV exposure, the UV aging degradation mechanism of PBO fiber was proposed. The results indicate that the DHPBO and DHPBO/n-TiO2 fibers show significantly improved UV resistance compared with the PBO fiber. In addition, the UV resistance of nano-rutile-TiO2 was obviously better than that of 2,2-[ethylenedi(p-phenylene)]bis- benzoxazole.
