The action of sodium methoxide on 4-methyl-5-ethyl-2,6-dimethoxy-pyrimidine in 90% methyl alcohol gave 3,4-dihydro-4-keto-2-methosy-5-ethyl-6-methyl-pyrimidine, melting at 209-210°.
