Aroylation of substituted cyclopentadienyllithium

Direct aroylation of substituted cyclopentadienyllithiums, prepared from Me or Ph lithium and 6,6-dialkylfulvene, with aroyl chloride was described and twenty new substituted fulvenes were synthesized. E.g., fulvene I was prepared in 48.3% yield from 6,6-dimethylfulvene, PhLi, and BzCl.
