A saponin extraoted from the bark of Schema argerntea Pritz may be used orally as veterinary anthelmintio and its ointment preparation may be applied externally in the treatment of tuberonlons fistula of skin. On aoid hydrolysis the saponin yields a sapogenin whioh gives a glycogenin on saponification. The structures of the glyoogenin and the sapogenin are shown to be A₁-barrigenol (I_a) and A₁-barrigen-22-ol angelio acid ester (Ⅱ) by IR, NMR and mass spectra respeotively.
