Nitrogen oxides can be removed through microwave induced catalysis combined with the adsorption and reduction of activated carbon. Flue gas denitrification using microwave reactor was carried out, the effects of microwave irradiation power (reaction temperature), flow rate of flue gas, concentrations of objective pollutants and flue gas coexistence compositions on the removal performance of nitrogen oxides were studied. The results show that, the higher microwave power, the higher denitrification efficiency, up to 80% of the denitrification efficiency under the power of 560 W is achieved|higher amount of activated carbon, more complete denitrification reaction, 83% of the NOx can be removed under the amount of 50 g activated carbon|NOx removal efficiency decreases with increasing flow rate of flue gas|presence of oxygen in flue gas enhances the removal of NO, and too high moisture content is harmful to the denitrification efficiency. Kinetic study shows that the order of NO reaction approximates to 1.0, and rate constant is 1.33 min-1. It is seen that the surface area could decrease as microwave irradiation from the results of BET measurement.
