A comparison of fast atom bombardment and electron ionization mass spectra of diisopropylphosphoryl protected amino acids

The fast atom bombardment (FAB) and electron ionization (EI) mass spectra of diisopropylphosphoryl (DIPP) protected amino acids showed similar fragmentation pathways, in which elimination of neutral mols. is the major reaction. Successive losses of two CH3CH:CH2 and then HCO2H are preferred in FAB spectra, while in EI mode decarboxylation is more favorable. Most of the fragment ions observed in FAB and EI spectra contain phosphorylamide structure and prominent indole-contg. fragments were also found in FAB spectrum in DIPP-Try.
