Abstract

The UV absorption and fluorescence emission spectra of 1,2,3,4-tetra(6',7'-dimethyl-benzoxazolyl)cyclobutane (I) are compared with the model compound (E)-1,2-bis(1',3'-benzoxazolyl-2')ethene, 1,2-bis(1',3'-benzoxazolyl-2")ethane, 2-methylbenzoxazole and the abnormalities of the compound I are attributed to transannular resonance effects.
