3,7-Dinitrodibenzobromolium bisulfate was prepared directly by reaction of 4,4-dinitrobiphenyl with sodium bromide and potassium persulfate in concentrated sulfuric acid. Reduction of 3,7-dinitrobenzobromolium bisulfate with SnCl2-HCl gave 3,7-diaminodibenzobromolium chloride I. Reactions of the diazo-salt solution obtained by diazotization of I, with Cu2Cl2, Cu2Br2, and KI gave 3,7-dichlorodibenzobromolium chloride, 3,7-dibromodibenzobromolium bromide, and 3,7-diiododibenzobromolium iodide, resp. Structures of these new compounds were established by 1H NMR, MS and IR spectra.
Key words: INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY, SULFURIC ACID, MASS SPECTROGRAPHY, PROTON MAGNETIC RESONANCE SPECTROMETRY, DIAZOTIZATION, POTASSIUM PERSULFATE, SODIUM BROMIDE
