Electrocarboxylation of organic compounds with carbon dioxide catalyzed by metalloporphyrins I. catalytic activities of metalloporphyrins for electrocarboxylation of benzyl chloride

The electrocarboxylation of benzyl chloride with CO2 catalyzed by metalloporphyrins and the effects of different kinds of central metals and ligands on catalytic activities are reported. Metalloporphyrins whose central metal can form corresponding M (I) complex compounds such as CoTPP (Co tetraphenylporphyrine), FeTPP, possess higher activities of catalysis. Metalloporphyrins with water-sol. ligands such as (Co, Fe)TPPS, (Co, Fe)TTMAPPI are better catalysts. Electron-withdrawing groups on the rings of porphyrins cause the lowing of metalloporphyrins' catalytic activities.
