Synthesis of Disk-like α-Co(OH)2 and Its Electrochemical Performances

Disk-like α-Co(OH)<sub>2 </sub>was synthesized through the anodic aluminum oxide<b> </b>(AAO)<b> </b>template and the subsequent treatment, and its electrochemical performances was investigated. In the method, the AC deposition was used to generate cobalt nanowires within the template pores, and then the cobalt nanowires were converted into the resultant product [α-Co(OH)<sub>2</sub>] by the oxidation of oxygen dissolved in alkaline solution. The component of products was analyzed by FT-IR, and their structure and morphology were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), respectively. Furthermore, the electrochemical performances were measured by cyclic voltammetry and constant current charge/discharge techniques. In addition, the formation mechanisms of disc-like Co(OH)<sub>2</sub> were discussed simply. The results show that the synthesized disc-like Co(OH)<sub>2 </sub>is a typical <i>α</i>-type Co(OH)<sub>2</sub>, and has good capacitance characteristics.
