Forty-three cations and thirty anions has been tested with glyoxal-bis(o-mercaptoanil).The following ions,Ag+,Au3+,Cd2+,Co2+,Cu2+,Hg2+2,Hg2+,Mn2+,Tl+,Tl3+,MoO2-4;and VO3-,give coloured precipitate which may be dissolved in suitable organic solvents,forming coloured solutions. The solubility of the precipitate formed depends greatly upon the pH value of the medium.
