Asymmetric catalysis serves as a core and pivotal technology for the precise synthesis of high-value fine chemicals and chiral pharmaceutical molecules, laying an essential foundation for modern organic synthesis and pharmaceutical industrial development. Nevertheless, traditional monometallic transition-metal catalysis and independent organocatalysis each suffer from inherent and unavoidable limitations in practical applications. Single transition-metal catalysis often faces challenges of insufficient stereocontrol ability and harsh reaction conditions, while pure organocatalysis is usually restricted by low catalytic activity and narrow reaction substrate scope. Merging the respective merits of the two catalytic modes, cooperative metal-organocatalytic asymmetric catalysis effectively overcomes the key bottlenecks of single catalytic systems through mutual synergistic activation and dual stereocontrol regulation. This advanced catalytic strategy enables efficient multi-bond activation, precise construction of structurally complex chiral skeletons and flexible stereodivergent transformations, thus standing as a vital cutting-edge research frontier in modern asymmetric catalysis. Herein, we systematically review the latest research advances in cooperative metal-organocatalytic asymmetric catalysis since 2022, classified by different types of organocatalysts. We focus on high-efficiency cooperative catalytic systems integrating classic chiral organocatalysts and common transition metals, including chiral phosphoric acids, hydrogen-bond donors (thioureas and squaramides), chiral amines, isothioureas, N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), as well as rhodium, gold, palladium and copper catalysts. We comprehensively summarize the versatile applications of this dual catalytic strategy in various asymmetric synthesis reactions. Combined with the developmental trends and application demands of modern organic synthesis, we also outline the future development prospects of this research field. This review aims to provide reliable theoretical references for the rational design and further exploitation of novel cooperative catalytic systems with high catalytic efficiency and excellent stereoselectivity.
