Synthesis of N-Aryl-N'-(2-benzofuroyl)-thioureas and 1-Aroyl-4-(2'-benzofuroyl)-thiosemicarbazides in Aqueous Media

A series of of N-aryl-N'-(2-benzofuroyl)-thioureas and 1-aroyl-4-(2'-benzofuroyl)- thiosemicarbazides were synthesized by the reaction of 2-benzofuroyl chloride with ammonium thiocyanate and arylamine or aroylhydrazine in the presence of benzyltriethylammonium chloride (TEBA) as catalyst via a one-step reaction in aqueous media. This strategy has the advantages of simple operation, mild reaction condition and environmental friendliness.
