Ring cleavage of tetrafluoroethylene sulfite

A mixture of tetrafluoroethylene sulfite (1) and tetrafluoroethylene sultone (2) was reacted with H(CF2)4CH2OH in the presence of triethylamine to yield the oxalate (CO2CH2CF2CF2CF2CF2H)2 (3). To explain the mechanism of the formation of compound 3, ring cleavage of the cycli tetrafluoroethylene sulfite is proposed. In the ring cleavage, SOF2 and (COF)2 were formed, the later further reacted with H (CF2)4 CH2OH to produce 3. 3 reacted with diethylamine to give Et2NCOCO2CH2(CF2)4H (4), both 3 and 4 are new compounds.
