Surface-enhanced IR Absorption Effect of Pt and Ru Nanofilms Fabricated by All-wet Processes

Economical and practicable all-wet processes have been developed to fabricate virtually pinhole-free Pt and Ru nanofilms for attenuate-total-reflection (ATR) surface-enhanced IR absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS). The processes incorporated an initial chemical deposition of Au nanofilm on the basal plane of a Si prism with a subsequent electrodeposition of desired overlayers. Pt and Ru nanofilms thus obtained exhibit unprecedented SEIRA effect with unipolar and normally directed absorption bands for CO adlayers. This versatile strategy opens a wide opportunity for extending ATR-SEIRAS to explore surface adsorption and reaction involved in electrocatalysis.
