This paper reports the reaction of bisthiocabanion with bifunctional compounds -- bromoacetate. The bisthiocabanion 6 reacted with methyl or ethyl bromoacetate to give the products 4 and 5 (R=CH3, C2H5) resulting from attack on carbonyl group, while with t-butyl bromoacetate to give product 3 without attack on carbonyl group. This is probably due to steric hindrance of the bulky t-butyl group, which rendered the attack of the bisthiocabanion on the carbonyl carbon atom rather difficult.
