On the cover: The two hands represent the chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, and the three colored balls represent the three protons involving in the formation of the new stereogenic center. It implies that the chiral spiro phosphoric acids can precisely control the enantioselectivity of proton transfer. The optimal transition state of proton transfer in the enantioselective-determining step is also shown in the center of the figure to make the meaning clear. [Zhu, Shoufei et al. on page 883-889.]
On the back cover: In N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis, the reaction pathways involving α,β-unsaturated aldehydes can be switched by the choice of metal salt. In the presence of such a synergistic co-catalyst, MgCl2 or RuCl3, a free NHC reacts with an enal to generate the homoenolate and the acyl azolium intermediates, respectively. The corresponding asymmetric hydroesterification and direct oxidation is accomplished with complete chemoselectivity. [Huang, Yong et al. on page 850-856.]
