Synthesis of side chain acid of isoharringtonine

Abstract

The stereocontrolled synthesis of side chain acid I of isoharringtonine from (R,R)-(+)-tartaric acid was reported. Thus, (R,R)-(+)-tartaric acid was converted to (2R,3R)-dimethyl tartrate acetonide, which then was transformed through alkylation, isomerization, hydrogenation, basic hydrolysis, partial esterification and acid hydrolysis to give the title compound I.
