Au/MeO~x (Me=Al, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn) catalysts were prepared by a coprecipitation method, and their catalytic performance for CO oxidation at ambient temperature and humidity was investigated. It was found that the activity and stability of Au/MeO~x were strongly dependent on the type of metal oxide support. among the samples tested, th eAu-based catalysts supported on the oxides of Zn, Fe, Co, Ni and Al showed high activity, i. e. they can oxidize CO to CO~2 completely at the given reaction condition. It was also found that these catalysts had excellent stability, the stability sequence was Au/ZnO>Au/α-Fe~2O~3>Au/Co~3O~4>Au/γ-Al~2O~3≈Au/NiO. The effect of water vapor on the activity and stability were also studied, and a positive effect for Au/ZnO and negative effects for Au/MnO~x were observed.
