Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Electrochemical Properties of a Ferrocenecarboxylato-Bridged Lanthanum(Ⅲ) Dimer

A novel dimer [La22 η2OOCFc)2(OOCFc)4(H2O)4]·2HOOCFc was obtained by the reaction of La(NO3)2 ·6H2O with sodium ferrocenecarboxylate in methanol solution. X-ray structural analysis reveals that in the compound two La(Ⅲ) ions are bridged by two ferrocenecarboxylate anions as asymmetrically bridging ligands, leading to dimeric cores, [La22OOCFc)2]. Each Ln(Ⅲ) ion has an irregular polyhedral coordination environment with nine coordinated oxygen atoms derived from the ferrocenecarboxylate ligands and coordinated water molecules. In its solid-state structure, [La22η2OOCFc)2(OOCFc) 4(H2O)4] groups are joined together by O...H-O hydrogen bonds forming a one-dimensional infinite chain. The solution state differential pulse voltammetries of title compound and the corresponding ligand are investigated in the DMF solution.
