Preliminary studies on the analysis of some inorganic anions by single-column ion chromatography

This paper described a new technique in the analysis of inorganic anions by single-column ion chromatography, in which neither suppressor column nor regeneration of the resins is necessary. Low capacity anion exchange resins can be prepared from a commercially available porous ethylstyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. With benzoate as elment, fluoride, chloride and bromide can be separated, the fluoriade and chloride peaks being sharp but the bromide peak broad. When phthalate is used as eluent, the retention time of these anions are reduced, and the fluoride peak is overlapped in the "in jection peak", while chloride, bromide and sulfate peaks are distinctly separated. The retention time of anions and their peak height are greatly influenced by the concentration and pH values of the eluent. The presence of cations in phthalate eluent will affect the sensitivity of detection (Li^+Na^+>K^+>NH4^+.
