Synthesis and solvent effect on absorption spectra of  pyrryl substituted fulgides

Abstract

Five new 3-Acetyl pyrrole derivatives and five new corresponding pyrryl substituted fulgides: E-(α )-(3-substituted pyrryl) ethylidene (isopropylidene) succinic anhydrides (3a～e) were synthesized. The photochromic properties of all synthesized fulgides in various solvents were studied. The solvent effects on the absorption spectra of fulgides and their coloured forms (7, 7a- dihydroindole derivatives) were also investigated. It was found that the absorption maxmium of the 7, 7a-dihydroindole derivative exhibites much stronger bathchromic shift than that of fulgide with the increasing of the polarity of the solvents.
