Synthesis of Indenoquinoline Derivatives via |Friedländer Condensation Reaction

The intermediate 6-aminopiperonal (3) is prepared by the nitration andreduction of piperonal (1). Five new compounds 5a~5e were synthesized via |Friedländer condensation reaction of 6-aminopiperonal(3) with 1-indanone derivatives 4a~4e. The structures of 5a~5e were confirmed by IR,1H NMR, MS spectra and elemental analysis.
