Pd/C-Catalyzed Transfer Hydrogenation with Hantzsch Ester 1,4-Dihydropyridine for the Reduction of Aromatic Azides, Aromatic Nitro Compounds and Olefins

The Pd/C-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation with Hantzsch ester 1,4-dihydropyridine (HEH) provides an efficient protocol for the selective reduction of aromatic azides to the corresponding amines. The method is advantageous in terms of high yield and high selectivity. The reduction of aromatic nitro compounds can also be achieved with the method. In addition, the reagent combination of HEH-Pd/C is also effective for the reduction of conjugated olefins.
