Infrared spectroscopic determination of the intramolecular hydrogen bonding of 18,19-anhydro sapogenin dimethyl ester of ilwxsaponin A

The intramol. hydrogen bonding of the title compound (I), the hydrolysis product of a new triterpenoid saponin isolated from Ilex pubescens Hook et Am. was studied by IR spectroscopic technique, and an assignment was made of its stereochem. configurations on the basis of comparison the effect of concns. and the peak shift before and after deuteration. The optimum experimental conditions, such as sample concns., thickness of sample cells etc., necessary for carrying out the determination was discussed.
