The electronic spectra of the charge-transfer complexes (CTC) between aromatic amines as donors and nitrofluorenones as acceptors were studied. The CTC peak showed a red shift, and the equilibrium constant increased with increasing electron-donating or electron-accepting ability of the components. In polar solvents the absorption peak moved to shorter wavelengths, and in electron-donating solvents the equilibrium constant was decreased.
