Synthesis and structure of (t-BuCp)2YbCl·THF

The title compound was prepared by reaction of YbCl3 and two equiv sodium tert-butylcyclopentadienide in THF, and the structure was determine by x-ray crystallog. The two ring centroids of the tert-butylcyclopentadienyl rings, the chlorine atom, and the oxygen atom of the THF form a distorted tetrahedron around the central ion of ytterbium. The average Yb-C bond length is 0.2628(10) nm, with Yb-Cl and Yb-O distances of 0.2537(3) nm and 0.2333(6) nm, resp.
