Synthesis of Complexes of Bidentate Ligands with Cd(II) and Hg(II)

Six complexes of two Schiff bases, methyl 1-ferrocenylcinnamylidene hydrazinodithiocarboxylate (HMFC) and benzyl 1-ferrocenylcinnamylidene hydrazinodithiocarboxylate (HBFC), with M(OAc)•nH2O [M=Cd(II) or Hg(II), n=2, 0], Cd(MFC)2•H2O, Cd(MFC)•OAc, Cd(BFC)2, Hg(MFC)2, Hg(MFC)2•OAc and Hg(BFC)2, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, IR and 1H NMR spectrum measurements. The possible coordinating process and complex structures have been discussed. It was found that two ligands are bidentate ones with trans configuration coordinating to the metal ions via nitrogens and sulfur atoms after their tautomerization of thione to thiol and deprotonation of the thiol.
