DSC and AFM Studies on Aggregate of Water Molecular Gels

A water molecular gel can be formed by the aggregation and self- assembly of gelator 4,4-bissteaiylarnide diphenyl ether at very low concentration. The microcosmic morphology, thin fiber-like structure, was observed from atomic force microscope (AFM) and TEM of the gels. The average fiber bundle diameter and the average hole diameter of the gel are both about 100 nm. By DSC measurements, the average hole diameter of the gel in different concentrations is calculated to be 50- 100 nm. The gel-sol temperature TQS of 55-72 °C is obtained. It is shown that the average hole diameter of the gel decreases and the gel- sol temperature rGS increases with the increase of the concentration of gelator
