Study on Synthesis of 2-Amino-2'-hydroxy-1,1'-binaphthyl by Two-phase Oxidative Coupling with a Cyclic Solid Oxidant

Various solid-oxidants with different loadings of FeCl3 on Al2O3 were prepared by impregnation. The effects of support and solvent on the oxidative cross-coupling of 2-naphthol with 2-naphthylamine using FeCl3/Al2O3 were studied. Up to 95.01% yield of 2-amino-2'-hydroxy-1,1'-binaphthyl (NOBIN) was obtained in chlorobenzene using the oxidant with 10% FeCl3 loading on the support containing 5% TiO2 at 60 ℃. The activity of the used oxidant was improved by treatment with H2O2, which provided an effective method to regenerate the solid-oxidant.
