Using reticulate titanium slice as a cathode, sodium chloride as a supporting electrolyte, photocatalytic and electrocatalytic degradation of methyl orange on Ti/TiO2 anodes doped with Ru, Pd and Ru-Pd were studied in this paper. The results showed that the photocatalytic activity of doped Ti/TiO2 anodes was lower than that of undoped ones, and the order of photocatalytic activity was Ti/Ru-Pd-TiO2<Ti/Pd-TiO2<Ti/Ru-TiO2<Ti/TiO2. However, the electrocatalytic activity of the doped Ti/TiO2 anodes was improved greatly, especially the Ti/TiO2 anode doped with Ru-Pd, and the order of electrocatalytic activity was Ti/Ru-Pd-TiO2>Ti/Ru-TiO2>Ti/Pd-TiO2>Ti/TiO2. Furthermore, the electrocatalytic activity of Ti/TiO2 anode doped with Ru-Pd was better than that of Ti/RuOx-PdO anode, which had been reported to possess excellent electrocatalytic capacity in our former work. And the research also indicated that the discrepant electrocatalytic activity between the doped and undoped Ti/TiO2 anodes was caused by their different capacity of electrolyte generating active chlorine in sodium chloride solution. The change of photocatalytic and electrocatalytic activities of Ti/TiO2 anode doped with Ru-Pd might have a key relation to the changed chemical form of Ru, Pd and Ti on its surface, according to the analysis results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
