Abstract

A series of meso-tetrakis(2-alkoxyphenyl)porphyrin derivatives [(ROPh)₄PH₂] and their copper(II) complexes [(ROPh)₄PCu] were synthesized, and sixteen of them were new compounds. For the first time, [(ROPh)₄PH₂] and [(ROPh)₄PCu] were generated as crystals or solids. The ¹H NMR, mass, FTIR, UV-Vis spectra and elemental analysis data were in good agreement with the assigned structures. The liquid crystalline (LC) properties of twenty compounds were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing microscope. It was observed that nineteen of them behaved as LC in a wide range of temperature. However, they displayed as heated monotropic liquid crystals.
