The odoriferous material formed in the reaction of cyclododecanone and phenylethylene glycol under acidic condition, was not the ketal of cyclododecanone, but the acetal of phenylacetaldehyde with phenylethylene glycol. The cis-trans isomers of the acetal, I and II, were separated by chromatog., and the configurations were established via the anal. of their 1H NMR spectra.
