A single crystal of [Pd(L-tyr)2]•0.5H2O was synthesized, and it belongs to monoclinic system with space group P2(1). Oxygen atom of carboxyl and nitrogen atom of azyl coordinate with Pd(II) ion to form two planar five-membered rings. There were weak interaction between one coordinate chelate ring and another coordinate chelate ring, π-π stacking between phenolic rings and hydrogen bonds between water molecule and ligand. In water solution, cumulative stability constant β2 of title complex is 1017, and it means that there was strong coordinate-covalent bond between ligand and Pd(II) ion. The interaction of the complex with fish sperm DNA has been studied by UV, fluorescence and CD. The results show that the interaction of the complex with DNA took mainly insertion mode and there was strong interaction between complex and DNA.

Key words: palladium(II), tyrosine, structure, stability constant, DNA
