Studies on the insect sex pheromones II: The synthesis of Z-11-hexadecenal

Abstract

Lepidoptera, such as Chilo suppressalis, Heliothis armigera, Plutella xylostella, Leucania separata, has been synthesized. The key intermediate, 2-[(Z)-11-hexadecenyloxy]tetrahydropyran, was prepared by means of the coupling reaction of 6-(tetrahydropyranyloxy)hexylmagnesium bromide with (Z)-5-decenyl tosylate.
