Oxidation of 3, 5-di-t-butylpyrocatechol with hydrogen peroxide to prepare 3, 5-di-t-butyl-o-quinone produced 3, 5-di-t-butyl-5-(2, 4-di- t-butyl-6-hydroxy phenoxy)-2-furanone (2) unexpectedly, A decomposition couping mechanism is suggested.
