The migration of a rare earth element Ce(III) in horseradish was qualitatively and quantitatively investigated for the first time. The results from the experiment are as follows: Ce(III) could be absorbed by the horseradish and could migrate with time in the horseradish, and the migration pathway of the Ce(III) in the horseradish can be revealed that the Ce(III) could enter mesophyll cells and migrate through the apoplast and symplast channels of the leaf (or plasmodesma) in the horseradish. This study of the behavior of the Ce(III) in the horseradish provided a reference point for a better understanding of the effect mechanism of rare earth elements on plant growth, environment and food safety.

Key words: Ce(III), horseradish, migration, autoradiography
