Abstract

Verbenol analogs I and II were prepared starting from a-pinene. Thus, reaction of a-pinene with dichlorocarbene gave the adduct III. Reduction of III with Na/NH3 followed by ozone oxidation gave I, which was reduced with NaBH4 to II.
