A cubane-type cluster (η^5-C5H5)4Fe4(μ3-Se)4 (1) was prepared by reactiuon of (η^5-C5H5)2Fe2(CO)4 with elemental selenium in refluxing toluene, whereas two cubane-type clusters with a general formula (η^5-RC5H4)4Cr4 (μ3-S)4(2, R=COMe; 3, R=CO2Me), were obtained by self-assembly reaction of (η^5=RC5H4)2Cr2(CO)4S in toluene at reflux. An attempt to prepare cubane-type cluster (η^5- EtO2CC5H4)4Fe4(μ3-S)4 was unsuccessful through reaction of elemental sulfur and (η^5-EtO2CC5H4)2Fe2(CO)4(5) made from η^5-EtO2CC5H4Fe(CO) 2Na and η^5-EtO2CC5H4Fe(CO)2I (4). New compounds 1~ 5 have been characterized by elemental analysis. IR and 1^H NMR spectroscopies.
