A Facile and Efficient One-Pot Synthesis of Seven-Membered Sulfur Heterocyclic Compounds Using [bmim]OH as Catalyst and Solvent

A rapid method for the straight chain addition of thiols to vinyl acrylates was developed by using basic ionic liquid [bmim]OH as catalyst and solvent. The basic ionic liquid used as catalyst for the cascade reaction of Michael addition and intramolecular addition-elimination reaction in one pot was applied to synthesize a series of sulfur heterocycles bearing lactone or lactam functional groups. In this paper, 18 compounds were synthesized including 12 Michael adducts and 6 sulfur heterocycles. These compounds were characterized by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra.
