Synthesis, Structures and Properties of Two Cd(II) Complexes Constructed from Ferrocene-based Carboxylate and Benzimidazole-based Ligands

A chain coordination polymer [Cd(h2-FcC(CH3)=CHCOO)(L1)Cl]n (Fc=(η5-C5H4)Fe(η5-
C5H5), L1=1,1’-(1,3-propylene)-bis-1H-(benzimidazol) (1) and a mononuclear cycle-like complex [Cd(h2-o-FcCOC6H4COO)(L2)(H2O)]•DMF•NO3•H2O [L2=2,2’-(1,4-hutanediy)bis(1H-benzimidazol)] (2) were obtained by the reactions of FcC(CH3)=CHCOONa and 1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)propane with Cd(II) ion, or o-FcCOC6H4COONa and 1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)butane with Cd(II) ion, respectively. The molecular structures of both complexes were determined by elemental analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray structural analysis. The thermal and electrochemical properties of the two complexes were investigated as well.
