^1H relaxation study on the dynamic behaviours of surfactant-type probe: 2-chloro-N-dodecyl pyridinium iodide (CDPI) in different aggregates

This paper reports the ^1H relaxation times of alkyl chain of the title compound in different aggregates---monomer, micelle, inclusion complexes with β -cyclodextrin (β-CD) and methyl amylose (MA). A comparison of T~1(CH~3), T~1(CH~2)~9 and T~1(CH~3)/T~1(CH~2)~9 among these aggregates reveal the dynamic behaviours of the chain and the motional freedom lowered down with the order: monomer, inclusion complex with β-CD, micelle, inclusion complex with MA. Mn^2^+ was used as a paramagnetic probe for observing its effect on relaxation time so as to study whether penetration of water into these aggregates happened. The result indicates that. CDPI molecules were secreted into the hydrophoic core of micelle or in the helical cavity of amylose and prevent from penetration of water then shielded from paramagnetic effect of Mn^2^+.
