The adsorption of the complex of niobium(V) with tartaric acid and 2-(5'-bromo-2'-pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol at the hanging mercury drop electrode

The adsorption was studied of a Nb(V) ternary complex with tartaric acid and 2-(5'-bromo-2'-pyridylazo)-5-(diethylamino)phenol (I) by a hanging Hg drop electrode in H2SO4. This complex can be adsorbed at potentials between +0.03 and -0.10 V vs. SCE. Reduction of the adsorbed complex proceeds reversibly. An equation is given for the concentration of the complex and its reduction product for adsorptive voltammetry, depending on the diffusion coefficient and the stability constant in the Nb complex, the diffusion layer thickness, and the concentration of free Nb and I in solution
