Supported tetranuclear cobalt cluster, Co4(CO)3(\m\2-CO)2(\m\4-P-)-2/ P (2) (P: Polystyrene-bisvinylbezene), was synthesized and its cobalt content was 9.5%. The atomic ratios of Co and P and the binding energies were determined by XPS spectrometer. The results were Ico/Ip. = 1.04 for 1, Co4(CO)3(\m\2-CO)2 (\m\4-PPh)2,, Ico/Ip = 1.03 for 2, Co (2P3/2) of 2 possessed relatively higher binding energy. IR was also investigated. The hydroformylation activity of supported cluster 2 was investigated and it was found that, under certain condition, the conversion of reaction was 83% and the selectivity to total aldehydes was near 100%.
