Visible-light photocatalysis has become a powerful method for constructing structurally diverse organic molecules. Currently, metal-based photocatalysts are predominantly rely on noble-metal complexes of iridium and ruthenium. In contrast, chromium and cobalt offer advantages of earth abundance and low cost, and their complexes, featuring tunable coordination environments and rich redox properties, have shown promising potential in photocatalytic organic synthesis. The structural design of photoactive Cr- and Co-based complexes and their applications in various organic transformations are systematically summarized, and the current challenges and future perspectives in this field are briefly discussed.

Key words: visible-light photocatalysis, photoredox catalysis, chromium complex, cobalt complex, catalytic organic synthesis
