In the oxidation of 13b-ethyl-3-methoxygona-1,3,5(10),9(11)-tetraen-17b-ol with 3-ClC6H4CO2OH, only 9b-hydroxy 11-ketone I and an unexpected compound 9a-peroxymethoxy 11-ketone II were obtained. A probable mechanism was described.
